metal, motor
4x3x24in
In the process of creating this work, I was struck by the strangeness of this machine-fueled process. I was in essence, employing machines to create my own machine. I was using metal processes to house a motor I constructed that would rapidly rotate a “miniature hand-held gun”. I created the metal piece that housed the gun to echo the motor to emphasize its sound and create the illusion of a round of bullets going off. The piece then became more about the terrifying notion of employing machines to make machines. To question what we are losing in the process. I deliberately formed the metal piece to resemble a train car with a sliding train door that opened to the gun. To me, the “train car” is representative of the transportation of goods and supplies during times of war. My project then took the form of this ongoing process of machine driven by machine in this endless power struggle.
