For this installation, I wanted to talk about the fragility of life and the horrors of war without necessarily showcasing the violence. I worked with flexinol muscle wires to create “butterflies” that would appear to be attempting to lift a lifeless army uniform off the ground. The butterflies all flap their wings continuously to no avail. I was inspired partially by one of Edward Keinholz installations that was never
fully realized called, “The Non-War Memorial”.
